Literature Text

Through the blue sky, the sun's rays of golden light

Fall upon the the rain of yesternight

The reflection of the morning and the lass

Shine as in a mirror or a looking glass

And the children waddle after their mother

Yellow-feathered sister behind yellow-feathered brother

As the girl with the bright red boots and dark brown hair

Walks to school, walks everywhere

Knowing, but telling not a single soul

About the man with the heart of coal

Who gives her bruises black like his eyes

And blue like the skies

But also tucks her in at night

And tells her not to let the bed bugs bite

I was given a prompt to write about a duck witnessing a girl being abused by her father, but I didn't want to write from a ducks point of view, so I gave myself a little bit of wiggle room.
